Wegekreuz-Weg in Lauperath
Lauperath
The 5 km circular route starts at the chapel in Lauperath and leads through the districts of Reuschenhof, Scheidchen and Scheuerbaum to 9 wayside crosses.
In the past, wayside crosses were erected on various occasions: In times of war and hardship, misfortunes and attacks or sudden death at this spot. But also out of gratitude for miraculous healings, happy returns from war and captivity or simply to honor God and the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The crosses not only have a purely religious significance, but also a cultural one. They are closely linked to the history of the respective place, as the shape and inscriptions provide important information about the history of the place and the people who lived there in the past.
An information board is embedded in the ground at the end of each cross, indicating the direction to the next wayside cross. The circular hiking trail offers some wonderful views of the surrounding area as far as the Schneifel and the nearby Prümtal valley.
